At our FOSS-SIG meetings at one time or another we've demonstrated Untangle's firewall, a Debian network install, Linux Mint, an Ubuntu install using Wubi, SLAX, gOS, Chromium, Knoppix and YLMF.

It is my desire to encourage TBCS members to try Linux in place of Windows to save licensing fees and gain control of their OS.

Linux Mint 9 is our present Linux favorite.

Linux has been my desktop operating system since 2006. I chose PCLinuxOS which was innovative at the time and I soaked up learning Linux using their excellent user forums. Since November 2008 I've been using Linux Mint as my desktop operating system. I've since installed Mint on my ASUS Netbook (which also boots WindowsXP). Mint is Ubuntu with elegance.

The best resource for selecting a Linux distro is visiting the Distrowatch website (see the right newsfeed).

Linux is Open Source software and completely free.
